November 7, 2024: Your Indoor Market Shopping List
What We're Bringing to the Farmers Market 🥬 Thanksgiving Special at the Market 🍁 Recipe Share
Saturday, November 9 at the Market
This Saturday is the indoor Lewiston Artisan Farmers Market from 9am-1pm at 505 Cayuga Street, 1st Presbyterian Church’s social hall.
This location is wonderful - there is a parking lot, it’s accessible for anyone with walking impairments, and there is a restroom.
Note: Our table will be located outside the market on Saturday due to some indoor spacing constraints. We’ll be right outside the entrance so you can grab your veggies from us on your way in or out of the market! It’s forecasted to be in the mid-40s so I won’t complain! The veggies will especially appreciate the cooler temps!

Icelandic Lamb Stew (Kjötsúpa)
This morning, I’m sharing one of my favorite recipes with you. It’s a cure for all — the cold, the flu, hangover, winter blues that come with early darkening days and even a broken heart. It warms you from within and tastes delicious, reminding you of the basic joys of life.
It’s magical.
And we are so lucky in WNY because fresh lamb is available. McBs Farm, which is a vendor at the Lewiston Artisan Market and the Lockport Community Farmers Market raises grass-fed lamb on the shores of Lake Ontario. I’ve been buying their lamb for years, and can attest that their “stew meat” is the perfect cut.
Ingredients
1 pound soup meat (lamb shoulder, stew meat, etc.)
7 cups of water or broth/stock
1 tablespoon salt (more or less depends on taste)
1-2 tablespoons dried herbs (thyme, parsley, and sage really shine in this soup)
1 onion
1-3 root veggies of choice - turnips, rutabaga, parsnip
2-3 medium potatoes
1-2 carrots
1/2 cup cabbage
Fresh black pepper
Optional: barley or rice
Directions
Trim the meat of any excess fat and chop into cubes. Place the meat in a large pot with water or stock and heat slowly to a boil.
Skim the broth and add salt, herbs, and onion. Let the soup simmer for about 40 minutes.
Slice turnips, potatoes, and carrots into fairly chunky pieces but not too big for a spoonful. Add them to the pot and let simmer for 15 minutes.
Then add the cabbage and let it simmer for 5 more minutes.
Add salt and pepper as you wish. If you feel the soup has gotten too thick or lacks liquid, just add some water.
The soup gets better if you let it simmer for a while to let the ingredients gel together
This serves 4-6 people and is even more delicious the day after.
