October 24, 2024: First INDOOR Market Starts Saturday
The MANY Veggies We're Bringing to the Farmers Market 🥬 Recipe Share 🍁 Cambria Halloween Fest
Saturday, October 26 at the Market
This Saturday is the first indoor Lewiston Artisan Farmers Market from 9am-1pm at 505 Cayuga Street, 1st Presbyterian Church’s social hall.
This location is wonderful - there is a parking lot, it’s accessible for anyone with walking impairments, and there is a restroom.
P.S. — From 11am-1pm the church is hosting a Trunk or Treat event in the parking lot as well - if you have kiddos, they are welcome to join the event. And if you don’t, just be aware that there will be some extra foot traffic in the parking lot area.
P.P.S — I will not physically be at the market this Saturday - my husband Patrick will be manning the Schul Farmstead table. So don’t think you’re at the wrong place! He’ll be able to take card & cash, and I will leave him with notes to answer any questions you might have about any of the veggies listed below!
Grab your reusable grocery bag (I’m doing a promo during the winter market - see details below) to grab some of these pesticide-free goodies this Saturday from 9am-1pm at 505 Cayuga Street. ⤵️

Lentil Dal with Hearty Greens (30 minutes)
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups dried red lentils, rinsed
2 tablespoons neutral cooking oil, such as olive oil, divided
1 small onion, diced
1 medium tomato, diced (or use canned tomatoes)
1 (1/2-inch) piece ginger, grated
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
6 cups loosely packed shredded greens, such as collard greens, dandelion greens, spinach, or kale
Salt
1/2 teaspoon whole cumin seeds
1 clove garlic, smashed, but left whole
Directions:
Place the red lentils in a large saucepan and add enough water to cover them. Bring the water to a boil, skimming off any scum that rises to the top, then turn down the heat and simmer until creamy and tender, about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, cook the vegetables.
Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat until it simmers. Add the onion and fry gently until translucent and beginning to brown, about 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes and ginger, and cook until tomatoes soften, about 3 minutes. Stir in the turmeric. Stir in the greens and let them wilt, about 5 minutes.
Stir the onion-tomato-greens into the dal, and simmer for a few minutes to warm through. Season to taste with the salt.
Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil in a small frying pan over medium-high heat until it simmers. Add the cumin seeds and garlic clove. Fry until the cumin sizzles, about 30 seconds, then turn off the heat and pour the seasoned oil, cumin seeds, and garlic into the dal. Cover and let it infuse for a few minutes. Stir before serving, and serve hot.
Cambria Halloween Fest
Growing up in Cambria there was never really any “town” activities aside from Summer Rec, so I was really excited when their recreation direction called me to ask if I would be willing to participate in their Halloween Fest.
Of course, I said “YES!”
I’ll have my Schul Farmstead table set up with the goodies listed below. Bring out the family for some great fall fun!
